Three Steps to A Beautiful Nursery

Decorating the nursery for a new baby is exciting as well as fun. It also requires some planning to make sure the end results are what you want. While there are additional details, these three steps are the most important.

The step that is the most fun and the one most parents do first is choosing nursery crib bedding. The crib bedding generally creates the theme for the nursery. Whether that theme is based on a color, fabric pattern or a nursery character or concept depends on the choice of bedding.

Some nursery character or concept theme ideas include western or cowboy crib sets, Winnie the Pooh bedding, firetruck or beach themed bedding, or any character you love that you might think about. Pattern based theme choices include toile, plaids, gingham and polka dots. Color based themes are of course based on one color and can be made of solid fabrics or prints.

Once you have the baby bedding choice pinned down, your next step if finding nursery furniture. As with bedding, there is a wide array of choices. You will find nursery furnishings in dark, medium and light stained woods as well as painted finishes. You will also find varying styles from very modern to very traditional.

Since you already have the bedding picked out, choose furniture that will look good with the bedding. For instance a very frilly, ruffled bedding set embellished with ribbons and bows would look somewhat overdone with an ultra modern crib.

As far as finish goes, brightly colored bedding generally looks best on a light or white colored crib. Whites, and other pale colored bedding will pop against a crib with a dark finish. You can look at various pictures online and at local store displays to get a better idea of how a particular color works with a particular wood finish.

The last step of your nursery decorating scheme is wall color. One of the easiest ways to choose it to select a color from the bedding and have the paint color matched at your local paint store.

Once you have completed these three steps your nursery will be almost complete. Add a few accessories and a cushy rocking chair for yourself and your nursery is done.
