Start With A Wooden Bedroom Wardrobe

Although it is possible to find free standing bedroom wardrobes in a variety of materials, the most common are wooden wardrobes. Traditionally a wooden wardrobe provides you with the ambience you expect in a bedroom and is can easily be matched with the other furniture in the room. Wood tones are warm and inviting and most people enjoy looking at beautiful wood grain on furniture.

The most commonly used woods for creating bedroom wardrobes are hardwoods such as oak, cherry, maple or walnut. Any of these woods will give you a wardrobe that will last for years and will become a heirloom. You may have to be a little careful when buying maple wardrobes as the wood can sometimes prove to be a little difficult to work with and as at times warped.

Each of these hardwood options have a distinctive color that is brought out in rich tones when oiled and polished to a high shine. The tones can vary from a light tan to a deep red glow depending on the wood and finishing method.

When opting for a softwood there is really only one viable choice and that is pine. Pine wardrobes are common and readily available anywhere. They can be just as durable and reliable as their hardwood counterparts. Pine bedroom wardrobes are generally cheaper because pine is plentiful and a cheaper material.

Pine can also provide a very interesting finish depending on the sort of pine wood that is used. Some pine wood furniture intentionally uses a particularly knotty type of wood with the blemishes used as strong detailing in the surface of the furniture. It can readily be stained or painted and will last for many years.

Although a single type of wood furniture in the bedroom will work just fine, the best effects are achieved if a few pieces using the same wood type are placed throughout the room. The design decisions are all yours to make and a wooden bedroom wardrobe will give you a solid starting point.
